Benchmark Day

I tried to scrape off the snow so you could read the Gray.......
Glen (one n ) is a volunteer fireman for Manasquan Engine Company #2. He has been a fireman for more than 30 years.    A few years ago they said they were going to make a bench in his name and he asked that they put the whole family's name on the bench---sweet right???  It was in front of the old lifesaving Coast Guard building and we would pass it on occasion.  Today we took a ride to the beach after going to buy dog food and the store was closed.......due to the snow????  Notice the shadows from the sunshine.  The whole time we were out for a ride the sun was shining........it is snowing again, now.  Our bench has been MIA for a few years now.....today we rode by the spot it was and asked and wondered where the bench has disappeared to.................I noticed the new recreation building that I have seen for the first time today---it looks great!!!!!!.  We drove up to turn around and look what we found!!!!!!

So, if you sit on the bench......this is what you see.  A new skateboard park and the recreation building in the distance.......this was such a great moment for me and brought a smile to my husband's face.  I actually jumped out of the car to take pictures to send to my children.  But, when I got back in the car I was really full of emotion........I remember the t-ball, the little league games and the bicycle rides through this park.............great memories all flooding my thoughts of time gone by.  We are so lucky to have this bench to commemorate all of our happy memories in this town of Manasquan.  We also rode by the house where my husband, my father-in-law and I watched the 1980 USA hockey team win the gold medal at the Olympics against the Russians.......It is my most favorite memory......one of those great in the moment times.   I loved seeing Glen's dad's reaction to the game-----he was jubilant!!!!!!  I turned on the TV when I got home to see the USA hockey team was winning against Norway..........I gotta feeling........

Wow Geralyn, one little ride through your home town was a very momentos one indeed!
I'm glad they moved your bench to somewhere where people can enjoy it more and they certainly will in front of a recreation park!!
The snow is beautfiul. I'm sure ya'll are sick of it by now but I think it's beautiful. We just don't have that here.
I haven't been following hockey as we don't have that here either.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I see you already are!!!

Lovely memories, and the bench is such a tribute. I guess it just wasn't the right time for the USA this Olympics in hockey. Maybe in 4 years...stay tuned!
